The role of the genuine innovator is to discover what the rest of us need even before we know that the need exists (Dale Harris).
RDT salutes the revolutionary vision of Michio Ito (1896-1961) and Merce Cunningham (1919-2009) choreographers whose innovative work the re-defined dance to inspire generations of artists and audiences.
A Utah premiere of Cunningham's 1965 "How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run," features a narrated sound-score written by John Cage that deliver a string of stories and anecdotes, a mix of quirky poetry, zen precepts and family history guaranteed to amuse. “Cage's style sits somewhere between Gertrude Stein and Garrison Keillor.”(Judith Mackrell, the Guardian)
NEW WORK…RDT dancers will embark on a new innovative project—creating choreography by incorporating movement phrases contributed by the community...We invite you to contribute and enjoy “eight seconds of fame.”
