CIPHER the choreography of Artistic Director Charlotte Boye-Christensen with a full evening of her distinctive and compelling work. This performance will feature the premiere of her multi-media project in collaboration with Utah author David Kranes and architect Nathan Webster. All three will illuminate—through dance, story-telling and the continuous morphing of stage spaces—moments of personal choice and revelation made at a critical young age relating to madness.
The dynamic 2009 work “Gravity,” performed to the contemporary music of Copenhagen-based FIGURA Ensemble, approaches the push and pull of the Earth’s force as a scientific principal and as psychological barriers. In response to Charlotte’s work, the Salt Lake Tribune wrote, “The emotional narratives in these dances are abstract, but the tension and kinetic energy tell a story that are common to us all.”
