Edward Elgar – Symphony No. 2 in E-flat major, Opus 63
Bruch’s First Concerto is adored for its second movement’s intense, Romantic melody. Following the concerto is Elgar’s Symphony No. 2, allegedly inspired by Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony. Elgar wrote that the piece “represents ‘the passionate pilgrimage’ of a soul,” and dedicated it to the memory of King Edward VII.
